Key support role for business and personal insurance marketing department. Business and Community Development Internship
About the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce:
Founded in 1947, the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce (LPCC) is a nonprofit organization of nearly 550 local businesses, institutions and professionals united to help businesses in Lincoln Park succeed and grow.
The LPCC have six staff members who work on a variety of projects for our members, including: organizing networking events, ribbon cutting ceremonies and summer festivals; conducting “task force” meetings that address the needs of specific sectors of our membership, including banks and retailers; participating in membership recruitment and retention initiatives; drafting member publications (The Source, E-Newsletter) and community publications (Lincoln Park Residents’ Guide and Lincoln Park Neighborhood Map); advocating on behalf of our members regarding legislation that affects local businesses; updating our website; sponsoring business education seminars; developing advertising and sponsorship packages; negotiating advertising discounts in Chicago-area publications; and participating in volunteer initiatives.
Focus:
This internship focuses on business development, economic development and government affairs.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with membership programs and projects
- Oversee vacancy database program
- Conduct permit parking survey and research
- Update business mailing lists for Special Service Area (SSA) boundaries
- Update SSA websites
- Assist with SSA special events and promotions
- Conduct SSA surveys and collect data
- Track publications for relevant Lincoln Park news relating to our legislative agenda
- Researching issues relating to LPCC’s legislative agenda
- Assist with telephone calls, e-mails, mail and office inquiries
Qualifications:
- Completed at least their sophomore year of college
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and a quick learner of other software
- Extraordinary organization skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects within set timelines
Terms of Internship:
- The internship is a part-time position of 10 – 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible between
9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. - The internship is for the winter quarter
- The internship is unpaid
- The internship is for 10 weeks and may be renewed
- Benefits include an excellent opportunity for community involvement in Lincoln Park and the chance to participate in LPCC programs and events

Title: Community Connections Marketing Intern
Department: Community Connections and Education Department
Supervisor: Associate VP, Community, Student and Educator Programs
Possible Majors: Marketing/Communications, Business, Sociology, or Journalism
Requirements:
- Interest in working with low-income and diverse communities
- Excellent communication skills including writing samples
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to multi-task in order to meet deadlines for multiple projects
- Time-management skills
- Experience and/or interest conducting research
- Preferred: experience and/or interest in education and community relationships
Description of Tasks:
- Research, gather information, and produce cases study that documents and exemplifies CCM’s approach to community engagement
- Conduct site visits and/or attend community meetings
- Document and archive the progress of Community Connections team and relationships developed in targeted communities
- Create systems and processes to continue ongoing documentation of community engagement
- Support Community Connections team in meeting attendance goals on Free Family Nights
· Communicate with various CCM departments to ensure effective internal collaboration
Hours: Minimum 200 hours, 15-20 hours per week – 3 month commitment
